Our Specialty

Understanding Cataracts & How Surgery Restores Vision

A cataract develops when the eye's natural lens becomes cloudy, causing blurred vision, glare, halos at night, and fading colors. When cataracts begin to interfere with daily life, surgical removal is the only effective treatment.

Dr. Ma performs cataract surgery as a short outpatient procedure — typically 15–20 minutes per eye — using small-incision techniques and a replacement intraocular lens (IOL) selected for your visual needs.

  • Femtosecond laser-assisted surgery (FLACS)
  • Complex and revision cataract cases
  • Multifocal, toric & extended depth-of-focus IOLs

If blurred vision, glare, halos around lights, or fading colors are affecting your daily activities — like driving, reading, or working — it's time to schedule a comprehensive eye exam to evaluate your cataracts.

Cataract surgery is performed with numbing eye drops or local anesthesia, so patients typically feel little to no pain during the procedure. Most describe mild pressure at most.

Many patients notice improved vision within a few days, with full healing over several weeks. Dr. Ma will provide a personalized recovery timeline and follow-up schedule.

Medically necessary cataract surgery is often covered by Medicare and many private insurance plans. Coverage varies by lens type and provider, so our team can help you verify your specific benefits.
